The Rules of Food Fiesta
FOOD PROJECT MEMBERS AND FAVORITE FOOD ENTRIES
1. Prepare Favorite food from any source; something the member has prepared many times at home. No food preparation will be allowed at the event. The container the food is in will not be judged. Bring serving utensils and pot holders (if the member is serving a hot dish).
2. The member will be judged on favorite food, knowledge in talking to the judges, and neat, well groomed appearance.
3. It is important that the member makes the entry on his/her own. No help should be given (except for safety issues, such as oven handling or cutting with knives for primary members (age 5-8 years old).
FOOD PRESERVATION PROJECT MEMBERS
The directions are exactly the same as for Food Project members, except that the member will prepare a dish using a preserved product and will bring on sealed jar of the preserved food. Products normally served along with other foods, such as jams, jellies, relishes, and pickles are to be opened and placed on a second serving dish. Bring an additional sealed jar for the purpose of being judged.
DECORATED CAKES PROJECT MEMBERS
1. Select an occasion.
2. Decorate a CAKE (from scratch or using a cake mix, adding extra ingredients, if desired). May use any frosting recipe appropriate for cake decorating.
3. The member will be judged on a decorated cake (need to know how to cut and serve the cake), knowledge about the decorating tools used and applications, and neat, well-groomed appearance.
TABLE SETTING ENTRIES
This division is open to any member enrolled in a project which involves the preparation of food OR members enrolled in Flower Arranging or Home Environment projects. Member is responsible for bringing his/her setup and setting up display without help. Two place settings must be shown, as well as table decoration. Use place cards if appropriate. Menu cards must be shown in order for judges to consider the place setting. Menu should be well balanced with consideration for 4 basic food groups. Be creative and imaginative in inventing a centerpiece rather than using a commercial centerpiece. Flower arranfing project members should create their centerpiece from the skills learned within their project.
