The 4-H Ambassador is the highest rank that can be achieved at the county level. An Ambassador is recognized for his/her outstanding level of 4-H achievement and is offered the opportunity for new growth and leadership. This position is a non-retiring service rank. Orange County Ambassadors serve as ambassadors of the 4-H Youth Development Program.

WHAT IS A COUNTY AMBASSADOR?

Someone who. . . "IS A TEAM PLAYER"

Has demonstrated leadership abilities, project achievement, citizenship concern, and maturity of judgment in a variety of situations beyond the club level.

Has made a consistent contribution to the maintenance and expansion of the 4-H Youth Program in their club and county.

Has exhibited a strong interest in continuing in the 4-H Youth Program and has specific ideas as to ways in which he or she can give guidance and leadership to some phase of the program.

Recognizes the opportunities and the responsibilities of being selected a 4-H Ambassador, and is receptive to new ideas and new challenges.

The rank of Ambassador should not be looked upon as an award only, but as a responsibility; and selection should be made from that viewpoint. Since serving as a 4-H Ambassador is an honor, high standards of selection should be maintained.

An Ambassador has:

bullet A record of leadership experience.
bullet Public speaking experience and decision making skills.
bullet A record of experience and growth in 4-H projects and activities.
bullet Maturity.
bullet Growth and development in personal, community, and civic responsibilities.
bullet Deserving of recognition as shown through sincere effort.

WHAT DOES AN AMBASSADOR DO?

  • Attend State 4-H Leadership Conference the year you are selected (recommended).
  • Provide working leadership and program planning for County activities and events including:
Achievement Night BLT Camp Winter Camp
Community Service Projects County Presentation Day Leader’s Banquet
4-H Club Visits Other Countywide Events  
  • Assist in setting goals, planning programs/activities, and serving on event committees for County.
  • Be available to speak to or represent 4-H to local clubs/organizations, and to Emcee at 4-H events.
  • Assist in giving the Ambassador/TLAW Report at monthly County Council meetings.
  • May attend Regional Council and Youth Council Meetings.
  • May serve on a County 4-H Standing Committee (Food Fiesta, Fashion Revue, Demo Day, Youth Expo, etc.).
  • Serve as mentors for the TLAWS.
