- Conduct myself as an adult staff member -- that's what you are!
- Set a good example by not using profanity or telling off-color jokes and stories.
- Not have in my possession or use tobacco, alcohol or illegal drugs while I am
participating in counselor training or at 4-H Camp.
- Be a responsible cabin counselor.
- Help those assigned to my cabin find the cabin and get settled.
- Get to know each of the campers in my cabin personally and by name.
- Have all campers, including myself, check in any medications with the nurse.
- Make sure each camper is familiar with Camp Conrad and camp rules through a
camp tour and review of camp rules.
- Make sure each camper observes good personal hygiene.
- Help campers take care of personal possessions.
- Go over the camp program of activities with my campers once each day.
- Check for illness or injury, but don't make a "fuss" about minor things.
- Have one counselor sleep on a bed next to the door.
- Be in my cabin with my campers at all times between the hours of "lights out" and
"rise and shine."
- Never punish a camper by ridicule, intimidation or physical contact (hitting,
shoving or restraining) -patience and understanding works wonders.
- Urge safety at all times. Take time to explain how and why to do something
safely.
- Go with hurt or sick campers to the nurse no matter how minor the ailment.
- Be quiet when appropriate and help keep campers quiet.
- Plan and conduct special activities..
- See that all campers are involved in activities. Make sure no one is excluded or
that the focus moves away from the primary objectives of camp.
- Guide, suggest and develop in camp a feeling of planning and doing things together.
in order to create a feeling of friendship and freedom.
- Make sure campers understand they are responsible for their own behavior.
- Be sure that all campers know that they must be accompanied by a buddy at all times.
- Be on time to meals, training and activities.
- Supervise table setting and dining room clean up when assigned or necessary.
- Be flexible -- plans to change --and rains to come.
- Discuss any problems or concerns with Youth Directors or Adult Directors.
I acknowledge that I have read and agree to abide by the above responsibilities if
selected as a camp counselor. I understand and agree that I will be asked to call my
parents/guardian immediately to pick me up if I do not conduct myself in an adult manner,
which includes remaining in my cabin after hours, ridicule or intimidate a camper or am in
the possession of or use of alcohol or illegal drugs.
