South Section and State Events

What is the California South Section?

The California 4-H South Section Leader's Council and Teen Council hold events, provide resources, and share state 4-H information to the nine counties of the South Section: Imperial, San Diego, Riverside, Orange, San Bernardino, Los Angeles, Ventura, San Louis Obispo, and Santa Barbara.  Both the leader's council and the teen council meet quarterly in Los Angeles County, and any adult volunteers or 4-H members (ages 13-19) are welcome to attend the council meetings to become more involved in the 4-H program beyond their county level.

Save the Date! Sectional Field Day 2023

The 2023 Southern Area Field Day and State Field Day will both be held in-person again this year! Virtual options may be available. Check back here for details.

What is State Field Day?

The State 4-H Field Day takes place annually on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend at the UC Davis campus from 8:00am until 6:00pm. The event is open to all 4-H members, volunteers, staff, and parents. Between 1,000 and 1,400 people attend the event. The event has a "picnic" feel as people bring chairs and socialize for the day on the Wellman Hall east lawn. The State 4-H Office provides coordination and facility support. Each contest and activity is coordinated by a group of 4-H staff, volunteers, and youth. During the event, 4-H members may participate in a variety of contests. Some contests require pre-qualification and/or pre-registration. Some are open to all during the event.
